it snows outside
But in our laundry room my tomato plants grow!
This picture was taken at night and as you can see the seedlings’ leaves close up. Initially I thought it was from the intensity of the grow lights but this picture is taken hours after the grow lights have been off. I looked it up and the most reasonable explanation is nastic movements. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nastic_movements) I know already that the seedlings grow towards the light which all plants do and that’s called photonasty. There’s a thing called nyctinasty and that’s the plants’ “sleep movements”. Many flowers will close their petals when the light levels decrease. This is “new” to me probably because I never checked on my seedlings at night in the previous years. It’s pretty interesting. I’d like to take some botany courses.
