another “yay” in Wendyland

A few weeks ago, Fredrik’s friend Boris bought some Go Green chocolate soy milk to make black Russians. I had no idea that he was lactose intolerant. Not too often do I meet Europeans who are lactose intolerant. But the chocolate soy milk was surprisingly good.

Today I decided to try out the natural soy milk. Like the title of this entry suggests, it turned out to be another “yay” in Wendyland. The only “downside” is that it’s not sweet. But that’s not and entirely bad thing. I should cut down on my sugar intake.

Here in Sweden, I guess there are certain criteria that have to be fulfilled in order for a product to be labelled as “milk”. Obviously, milk has to be milk. Soy milk is definitely not milk. As Patrick once said, “It’s not milk! It’s more like soy bean juice!” But lactose free milk is labelled as lactose free “milk drink”. I suppose milk without lactose is simply not milk.

my kingdom for a bicycle

I actually have a bicycle already but I would like a cute bicycle. One like the one I have back in Canada.

For some reason, bicycles are super expensive here. A regular city bike with no frills will run you up at least 2000kr. I wonder why that is. My bike is not cute but it was still almost 900kr.

If I could afford it, I’d get one like the Tek Wasabi 3. Although, I would prefer to have hand brakes and maybe in pink.

I’m hoping to get the bike out sometime this week. Fredrik will go into the studio next week and that means I’ll have no car while he’s gone. It’s not really a bad thing. I’ll miss having him around the most. I’m hoping to take the subway as little as possible.

I’m hoping to be able to ride into the city for school when and if I start summer school. It’s a 14.5km ride and there are many hills. I am extremely out of shape and let me tell you, it HURTS when you get back on a bike after years of not riding. I’ll have 2 months or so to “train”.

Swedish television

Almost everyone has a suggestion on how I should learn Swedish. One of the most common suggestion is that I should watch Swedish television.

Oddly enough it’s not that easy to watch Swedish television.

For starters, almost all the Swedish channels air more American television shows than Swedish. They have Swedish subtitles instead of dubbing it like some other European countries.

Secondly, a lot of the Swedish television programs are very boring. But that’s not to say that it’s all boring programming.

I’ve been watching shows like Leilas Mat and Vad blir det för mat? Those are Swedish cooking shows. They don’t necessarily make Swedish food but the program is in Swedish and I think most of the time the food leans more towards the Swedish cuisine.

Every so often we catch Erik och Mackan: Hela och Ren. It’s these 2 guys who discuss about things like dirty socks, old food and there’s a guy who doesn’t shower, brush his teeth and change for 33 days. Last Sunday we watched the season’s finale and dude was offered 10 000kr to continue his “experiment”. He declined.

Most of the time when I watch Swedish television, I have to pay some serious attention to it.

Today I made a bento but decided not to go to school so I enjoyed it at home with Ull. Sometimes it’s so hard not to feed him people food. I know it’s not very good but it’s not like I give him heaping amounts of food. Just a bit of meat here and there. I make sure that the food doesn’t have things like onion or garlic in it. Sometimes I give him a wee bit of my low sugar vanilla yogurt. The other day he was so enthusiastic that he flicked drops of yogurt on to his forehead. Silly little cat.
