bento #07

For tomorrow’s lunch, there will be spaghetti bolognese. The black bottom cupcake, dried apples, hazelnuts and almonds will be for snack. At first I didn’t know what I was gonna bring for snack, then I remembered that I’ve got some black bottom cupcakes in the freezer. The cupcake will thaw without the plastic wrap and be yummy when I am ready to eat it.

new coffee

Sometime ago Fredrik and I purchased some different packages of coffee. We usually buy the Löfbergs Lila mellanrost fair trade and organic coffee but there was a sale. We got mellanrost, stark, Colombia and Skånerost. The Colombia was not too bad. Mellanrost is mellanrost. Today we opened up the Skånerost and it tastes kind of burnt. :-P I hope we get through this package of coffee soon.

new batch of bolognese

I made a new batch of bolognese today.

Here’s how I make my bolognese.

Ingredients can be varied depending on your taste.

  • 300g ground beef
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 1 medium zucchini (grated)
  • 4 small-medium sized carrots (grated)
  • 6 cloves of garlic (chopped)
  • 2 cartons of 500g crushed tomato
  • dried oregano, basil & mystery spice (I had no idea what it was but it smelled good)
  • salt & pepper
  • soy sauce
  • olive oil

I cooked the onion and garlic in some olive oil until the onions are soft. Then in goes the grated zucchini and carrots. Turn down the heat and let it stew for a bit. In another pan, cook the ground beef with a bit of garlic and olive oil. Add the beef to the zucchini, carrot and onion mixture. Add crushed tomatoes and add soy sauce, salt, pepper, and spices according to taste. Cook over low heat until you feel that the sauce is done. Serve with pasta.

I usually make a big batch of bolognese every time I make it because it freezes quite well. In the last I put them into a muffin tin to freeze. This time I might freeze it in larger portions.

I mixed the bolognese with a bit of left over béchamel sauce and it turned out pretty good.

better than expected

I picked up my bento box from the post office and as it turns out, it wasn’t such a bad buy after all. When I first looked at it, I thought that the seals on the box wouldn’t be so great ’cause it looked like there would going to be leakage. But after a shake test with some water inside the box, I take back my original judgement. Now I have another super cute bento box to bring my lunch in. Yay!

new bento box

I made a bid on a bento box on Ebay a couple weeks ago not really intending on getting it. I didn’t think I would win it but I did. It’s at the post office at the present moment, I’ll be going to the post office in a wee bit to pick it up. It is a very cute bento box. I’m just running out of space in my cupboard to put another bento box. The unfortunate thing about this bento is that it doesn’t pack into a smaller box. It’s like the Charmy Kitty bento box that I have, instead of using a belt to secure the box, it uses latches on the side.  It’s a San X Rilakkuma Relaxing Bear 2 tiered bento box that also has a fork, spoon and I do believe a pair of chopsticks. I think I was drawn to the fact that it came with a fork and spoon. I’ve got plenty pairs of chopsticks.
